Auditions for selecting Ghanaian contestants for the reality show -'The Next Movie Star, has been held in Accra. After days of auditioning, nine Ghanaians and one Liberian have been selected in Ghana. About 14 contestants were selected in Nigeria.

After a grueling section in the final auditioning which lasted till the early hours of Friday, the panel, made up of organisers, top Ghanaian actors, actresses, Miss Ghana '07 and some media personnel endorsed 10 contestants.
The 10 contestants from Ghana and their colleagues from Nigeria will be camped at a Guest House where they would be groomed, after which the number would be reduced to the final 16 contestants who will move into the Star house in Nigeria, from September 2 to October 2, this year.

The Next Movie Star, the show that has been the biggest and most exciting reality TV show for two years running in Nigeria was shown across 23 TV stations in Nigeria and attracted a lot of media reviews from major print and electronic media in Nigeria.

It seeks to discover, nurture, and promote new faces for the Africa movie industry, and the event will provide a measurable excitement for TV viewers. The Next Movie Star, which will be on air for an hour for 30 consecutive days from September 3 to October 2 will have two presenters, each from Ghana and Nigeria.

The winner of the show would drive home a brand new car. The most impressive housemate from the non-winning country will also receive a brand new car. In addition, the winner will receive a plasma television, home theatre, and will be provided with a flat in any city of the winner’s choice in Nigeria or Ghana.

The show will provide instant stardom for participants with series of comedy, drama and special events. It also provides cost saving opportunities for brands and advertising.

The President of Ghana’s Actors Guild, Nii Odotei Mensah advised the contestants to register with the guild for an identity card that will qualify them to feature anywhere. It will also guarantee their security before flying to Nigeria.

Frances Tachie-Mensah, Miss Ghana ’07, nevertheless encouraged them not to think about the ultimate prize but rather showcase their talent to the world.

Dare to Believe by Seye Oke

The anguished feeling came harder as I poured out my heart in prayer. “Where are you Lord? Why would you turn away from me now, when I need you more than ever?” I tossed around the bed, waiting for a reply to my unspoken plea. I felt the tenseness in my vain increase as I struggled with the bitterness that burned in me. The room was silent and the night still, nothing could be heard except my sniffing. My eyes were heavy from incessant crying and inadequate sleep. My thoughts raced through events of the day. I felt a cloud of depression settle on me like dust on a cold harmattan morning.

“Where is my God? Where is the one I have known since my childhood? The one my mother talked about, the one my father believed. ” I cried out finally in frustration. In an instant of anger, I stood and flicked on the lights. My eyes caught sight of the book on my bedside table. Turing around, I fell again unto the bed and broke down in tears, “Your word is a lie; you have not kept your promises to me.” I screamed, almost certain I would not make it through the night.

Just when my crying subsided and my pulse rate was beginning to come down, I suddenly felt an inclination to pick up the book, my bible. Scrolling down the first page my hands opened, I read out loud in mockery

“But I will never stop loving him, nor let my promise to fail him. No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I have said. I have sworn an oath to David, in my holiness I cannot lie.”

I read it the first time and sighed in disbelieve. “I guess the covenant was with David because God you have failed to keep your promise to me.” I was going to drop the bible when a voice within me told me to read again. I did, reluctantly at first, and then over and over until gradually I felt an aura of peace envelope me. Then I heard the same words whispered in my ears in the most soothing tone I have ever heard.

“I can not Lie. Even if I tried I can’t. Every word, every promise, every single covenant I have made with you, Seye, will come to pass. Believe me, even when it seems impossible to believe, just believe, because I have sworn an oath by myself, my word will come to pass. I can not lie, it is impossible for me to lie, impossible! I will never stop loving you.”

I felt an illumination in my spirit as I listened to the voice of God encourage me to trust in his unfailing love. I did and a few hours after my encounter with the God of Rest, I got my miracle, that same day.

Dare to believe.

FG Scraps NNPC - Sets Up 5 Subsidiary Companies & A National Council On Energy

The Federal Government approved the unbundling of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) into five new organisations within the next six months. The decision is aimed at making the country’s energy sector more efficient and is in line with the new National Oil and Gas Policy.

The five agencies created to handle activities in the sector are the National Petroleum Directorate, the National Oil Company, the Petroleum Inspectorate Commission, the Petroleum Products Distribution Agency, and the National Oil and Gas Assets Holding and Management Company. The NPD replaces the Ministry of Energy, while the NOC takes over the core roles of the NNPC. The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), which had the responsibility of policing the oil sector as a department in the Ministry of Petroleum, has been replaced with an autonomous body to be called Petroleum Inspectorate Commission (PIC). The Pipeline Products Marketing Company (PPMC) will be replaced with a new body to be called Product Distribution Authority (PDA) while the National Oil and Gas Assets Holding Company (NOGAHC) will replace NAPIMS to handle the management of assets of the former NNPC.

The government also constituted the National Energy Council to be headed by the President and Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as the deputy chairman to overhaul and reorganise the NNPC and the entire energy sector with the aim of making it work again.Other members of the council are the Minister of State for Energy (Petroleum), Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, his counterparts in charge of Gas, Mr Olusina Emmanuel; and Power, Mrs. Fatima Ibrahim. Also included in the Council are the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa; the Minister of Finance, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman; the Minister of National Planning, Senator Sanusi Daggash; the Honorary Strategic Adviser to the President on Energy, Dr. Rilwanu Lukman; and the National Security Adviser, Gen. Ibrahim Mukhtar. Four other members are to be appointed by the President.
The minister said said, “The Council today (Wednesday) put an end to the speculation as regards the new oil and gas policy. “The Council received memorandum on the proposed National Oil and Gas policy, the recommendation arising from the sector reform implementation committee, which was inaugurated in 2000 under the chairmanship of Lukman. “That committee was charged with the responsibility of restructuring Nigeria ’s oil and gas sector. “The National Council on Privatisation received the report of the committee in 2005. It has been five years of work within which experts in the industry have come together to put together this report that was presented to the council.

“Almost simultaneously, the NCP had also set up a committee to look at the oil and gas industry. “Those two reports came up at about the same time and a committee was set up under the then Minister of Petroleum Resources to harmonise the reports because there were significant overlap. “Those two reports were presented to the council today (Wednesday) with a working document, including the one that came from the NCP.“The only thing that was added to that report was the creation of the National Energy Council.

“The Council also approved the implementation of the National Oil and Gas Policy within a period not exceeding six months. “One of the highlights of the new policy is the unbundling of the NNPC. This means creating five new organisations out of the existing structure. “A new Petroleum Directorate is to be set up.

A National Oil Company, that is NNPC itself as it is now known, is to be reorganised to empower it to conduct itself like any other oil and gas company. “It will be isolated from some of its other functions. For example, the Department of Petroleum Resources currently is a department in the Ministry of Energy and this will be replaced by a commission known as Petroleum Inspectorate Commission that would be independent and empowered to monitor the industry effectively.

“There is Petroleum Product Distribution Authority, which is another new organisation. There is also the NOGAHMSC which will effectively replace NAPIMS to manage the assets that are currently being managed under the umbrella of the NNPC. “The Council approved the constitution of the energy council which will work within the six months time frame to implement the policy”

It is expected that the constitution of the energy council will herald the declaration of emergency in the country’s energy sector.“The President had revealed in his address at the opening session of the recently-concluded presidential retreat that emergency will be declared after the establishment of the Council, which he said would work out ways to realise self-sufficiency in the energy sector.”

Hurray! globacom is 4

Just yesterday in the papers I was flipping through, I saw spashes of ads on almost every page giving felicitation to the globacom boss, Chief Mike Adenuga. It was time to share a sense of fulfilment in his dream as many people thought it a thing of joy to see a multi-billion dollar vision take root so fast.

For me, I would say that the sun has just begun its shining for globacom. Newer opportunities are opening up for this Telecoms giant, not only in Nigeria as the 2nd national carrier of telecoms license, but in the entire African continent. Within those four years, I believe "Mike" can look back and say, "despite all the denials here and there, and all the hot competitions for expanding markets to ensure a wide coverage in the Nigerian terrain, as a starter we have excelled wonderfully!"

In deed, globacom had challenges and needed to face the changing times, with ECONET and MTN already hundreds of thousands of subscribers ahead. But, despite this suicidal challenge, they marched on to triumph, and just yesterday 29th of August, 2007, the bell rang four years of committment and hardwork that made them come to a conclusion that their service has come to stay.

It's too early though, if we are quick to judge. But, what I admire is the uniqueness of globacom in its singular pursuit of a stronger license that puts them as the futuristic onlooker for growth and development of telecommunications in Nigeria.

Kudos to you, Mike. A job well done!!!

Let's celebrate. Globacom has come a long way!!!
